This Danish stoneware table lamp was made by Søholm Stentøj on Bornholm in the 1960s to a design by Arne Finne Nielsen, usually credited simply as Arne Finne. The underside carries the factory stamp "Bornholmsk Søholm Denmark Stentøj", and the form is often referred to by the model number 3078/3.
A tall conical body widens into a flared foot and narrows to a short neck under the socket. The glaze is creamy white, drawn out into fine horizontal streaks of brown and grey, with a teal green line marking the shoulder. Around the foot runs a hand-decorated border of pointed blue motifs and small green accents, which gives an otherwise calm silhouette its decorative weight.
Søholm was founded in 1835 and became one of the best-known ceramic works on Bornholm. Its mid-century stoneware lamps and vases, by Finne Nielsen as well as designers such as Einar Johansen and Noomi Backhausen, are what many collectors now associate with the name. Lamps like this one show why: the surface keeps visible traces of hand glazing and decoration rather than an even, industrial finish.
The lamp is offered without a shade and is photographed with a brass harp. The pleated shade seen in the pictures is not part of the item and is included only to illustrate how the lamp looks when lit. Because the glaze and decoration were applied by hand, no two bases are identical, and this is a single, one-of-a-kind example.
