This Swedish table lamp base was produced by Rörstrand in the mid-20th century, most likely in the 1950s or 1960s. Founded in Stockholm in 1726, Rörstrand is among the oldest ceramics manufacturers in Europe, and its mid-century output included hand-decorated lamp bases alongside tableware and studio pieces.
The form is a short, stepped cylinder. A wide, flat shoulder glazed in dark brown and banded in green sits above a straight white body, with a narrow neck leading up to the socket. Around the body runs a hand-painted frieze of round brown fruits with small green stems, finished with a green stripe and a dark brown foot where the brushwork is still visible, a sign that the decoration was applied by hand.
The glossy white glaze gives the earthy brown and green palette a clean, graphic look, restrained in the way much Swedish ceramics of the period was. As with most hand-decorated pieces, the placement and size of the fruits vary slightly from base to base, so no two are exactly alike. The lamp is fitted with a black socket and is offered as a base only: any lampshade visible in the photographs is for illustration and is not part of the product.
