This white ceramic table lamp, model 1229, was made by Søholm Keramik on the Danish island of Bornholm in the 1970s. Its base carries the impressed model number, the blue "Made in Søholm Denmark" stamp and the MP monogram of Maria Philippi, one of the designers behind the pottery's modern lamps and vases.
Founded in Rønne in 1835, Søholm moved in the post-war decades from traditional household wares to stoneware lamps and decorative pieces with a clear Scandinavian modern character. Philippi joined the pottery as a designer in the early 1960s, and her forms, often built around a repeated pattern of fine parallel grooves, remained in production well into the following decade.
The body is a slim column whose cross-section reads as a soft heart: two rounded lobes meet in a crisp vertical seam at the front and open into a gently flared rim at the top. A band of shallow horizontal grooves runs across each lobe, picking up light and shadow on the matte white surface. The restrained colour lets the base work with almost any shade, from natural linen to a saturated pleated design.
Please note that the pleated shade visible in the photos is not part of this listing and is shown for illustration only; the offer covers the ceramic lamp base with its fitting. This exact example, with the marks of its age, is the one pictured and the only one available.
