This Torino Lille table lamp was designed by Michael Bang for Royal Copenhagen and made at the Holmegaard glassworks in Denmark, from around 1990. The base is blown opal glass in milky white, with streaks of cobalt blue running down from the neck, and a satin metal collar sits beneath the lamp fitting. The printed label under the foot reads "Royal Copenhagen, Type: RC 103 A, Str. Torino Lille".
Torino is a series by Michael Bang, a Holmegaard designer and the son of the earlier Holmegaard designer Jacob E. Bang. The lamp was made in more than one size, and "Lille" (small) marks the compact version, not to be confused with the taller "Mellem" (medium) lamp. Holmegaard merged with the Royal Porcelain Factory in 1985, which is why glass from this period carries the Royal Copenhagen name.
The glass is cased, a clear outer layer over an opal white core, which gives the surface its soft, milky depth and makes the lamp glow evenly when lit. The blue is strongest on the neck and fades gradually into the white of the shoulder, and a heavy clear glass foot gives the form a crisp, grounded edge. Because the streaks are formed in the glass itself, the pattern is particular to this one lamp.
The pleated blue shade shown in the photos is for illustration only and is not part of the product. The lamp is offered as the glass base with its fitting and cord.
